We recently embarked on a major exterior renovation for some great clients of ours. They wanted to transform their spacious back yard area into an entertaining oasis. We started with a blank slate, as you can see in this pic below.
Where To Start
Sometimes when there are so many options, and so much space, fine tuning a design premise can be very challenging. So we met with our customers and had them put together a wish list of everything they might like to see in their back yard. We talked about fire features, retaining walls, exterior televisions, exterior kitchens and much more. In the end we narrowed down our list to must haves and we got busy on a design concept. After a couple of edits and minor changes, a final design was decided upon and we were off to the races.
Material Selection
As you might imagine there were a lot of decisions to be made before we could get started on construction. So we met with our clients and local suppliers to pick out pavers, decide on colors and to look at fire feature concepts. Lighting was going to be a must, so a variety of options were presented and final decisions were made. All the materials were ordered and we were finally able to start digging!
Construction
This was a true labor of love. We worked through, snow, in cold temperatures, in the rain and in the blazing sun. But we had so much fun tranforming this space into what it is now. Major trenches were dug through the middle of the work are to provide conduit for electric and to run gas lines to all the fire features. Tons and tons of base material was brought in for a solid foundation and we ran the compactor for what felt like a week straight. Once we had the foundation in place we could start making in look pretty as we began installing the pavers.
The Final Result
The end result was so gratifying to everyone on the project. From the massive fire pit, to the tiki torches, everything came out just the way we wanted it. The integrated lighting and sound around the perimeter of the patio adds the perfect ambiance to any get together. There is plenty of room for seating or to play corn hole on warm summer nights. We can envision many memories being made on this massive paver patio, and we were proud to be a part of it.
